PARTNERS WE RECOMMEND

People,
Organizations,
and Services we
love and trust

The Academy is one part of a family's path, not the whole of it. These are the organizations we tell families about directly - the ones we trust enough to put our name beside.

HOW WE CHOOSE

Nothing gets on this list for the asking

A recommendation from the Academy is a promise to the family receiving it, so the bar is the same one we would use with our own people.

  • Free, or low enough that a family already spending everything can still use it
  • Evidence-based, backed by rigorous neuroscience, psychiatric, and psychological research
  • Run by people who have lived this, not only studied it
  • No obligation to buy anything, and no pressure to keep a family connected
Where to find additional help and information

When a family needs more than just a Caregiver Class

Crisis and urgent help

Places a family can reach the same day when things have moved past what a conversation can handle.

  • Call 988 for Crisis
  • Call 9-1-1 for police/fire/ambulance

BEFORE you would ever need to call your local police, call them PROACTIVELY. Ask to visit the Chief of Police and/or a Social Worker on the force. Take a recent picture of your Loved One (LO) along with information about their diagnosis, age, name, height/weight, hair color, etc.

Advise them:
  • Of LO's delusions / hallucinations
  • Not to approach with threats / anger
  • Not to approach with weapons visible
  • Not to shine light directly into eyes
  • To ask, if Loved One (LO) feels safe
  • To ask, if LO feels like hurting self or others
  • To ASK your LO how they can help

Tell us who has helped you

If an organization made a real difference for your family, email Michael. We meet organizations the same way we meet everything else - by listening first, and only recommending what we would use ourselves.
